Wipers Times 14 is the first beer of the new city brewery of Ypres ‘Brouwerij Kazematten’, located in the unique historical ‘Kazematten van het Houten Paard’ (the casemates of the wooden horse) at the Lille Gate in Ypres .
It’s a blond beer of high fermentation , brewed with 4 grains, 4 herbs and only local hops. The name of the beer is a reference to the ‘trench gazette’ which was printed during the First World War by British soldiers. The newspaper was printed in the casemates on an old printing press that was salvaged from the ruins of Ypres. The newspaper was an exceptional mix of jokes , black humor , sarcasm and poetry and became an instant success among the British soldiers who served their country in the trenches .
